MAURICE VANPOULLE.
MAURICE VANPOULLE. Ecclesiastical Embroidery & Church Furniture. (Cat. 29).  London. Vanpoulle. 1929.
(293 x 225). pp, (2), 140, (2). Illustrated throughout. Some light soiling. Softbound with rubbed and soiled printed card covers and cloth spine. Old repairs to hinges. Clear protective wraps. Maurice Vanpoulle, a supplier of clerical vestments in France and Belgium, came to London in 1908 setting up a shop in Vauxhall in South London and taking on Laurence Appleton as a salesman and later a manager. On Vanpoulle's death Appleton bought out the shares of the company and later his three sons joined him. Although they have continued owning and running the company they have retained the name of Vanpoulle which is now recognised as the leading English supplier of ecclesiastical vestments. This appears to be their first catalogue of vestments although a catalogue of church plate and similar items was issued in 1925. Copac does not locate a copy of this catalogue but lists three later editions from 1981, 1990 and 1997. A large book which may be subject to additional postage.
